It's been a busy week. And I had a run-in with the police last night.
It was intense.
Furrowed lines were splashed across my face, frozen from hours of intense concentration. My hands and fingers were going strong in a marathon relay of keyboard-mouse-keyboard-scratch-keyboard-mouse-drink-keyboard. There was to be no stopping. I had three major projects all due within a few hours of each other the next day. Actually, by this time, it was the day. Thursday. Today. Craziness.
It was in this state of deepest focus and intent that the distant beeps of the lab's keypad sounded the alarm of an intruder. For a moment I debated whether to hide and try to go unnoticed or to continue my process with the machine. Being discovered meant getting the boot. If I just ran and hid behind the presentation desk then I could possibly stay in the lab all night. I needed all night. In the end, I think it was my hypnotic state with the monitor that prevented me from even stirring. The security guard entered and I didn't even flinch.
He stared for a while, like he didn't notice me, and then he asked the question: "Good evening ma'am, do you have a late pass tonight?" Play ignorant, I told myself. "A late pass?" He proceeded to explain the theory of the late pass which I was grateful for because it bought me more time. In the end, I had to tell him that no, I didn't have a late pass, yes, I just realized that it was an hour past curfew, and okay, I guess I can be done for the night.
With that, he took down my i-number, radioed down to "base" as he called them, and proceed to escort me out of the building. Steffer was there too. We were criminals together. The cookie bribe didn't work. Apparently the security guards aren't mid-night snackers.
And that was that. I have my first after-hours warning. It's fun. But, I did get all my projects done (except for my site). My hosting server was down all night and most of today so I didn't have to turn my site in. That was a miracle. I never even thought to pray for it to be down because I didn't think it was a possibility but obviously someone in my class has a lot of faith. That, or mad hacker skills. Either way, I was saved.
I pulled a 7:30am to 12:30am and 6am to now. Not to mention the previous days. I honestly love it though. It's been a long, yet short week. And tomorrow it's off to Salt Lake. I need sleep!
Have a great day :)

How to be really annoying.
An excerpt of my favorites:
It's not looking like the Josh concert is going to be a go. I could go by myself but where's the fun in that? Vacation will still be good though.
I went to a rodeo on Friday and the two-year-olds were more entertaining than the 22-year-olds. They strapped little kids sporting bright pink helmets onto the back of sheep and released them from the pen to sprint and buck around the arena. It was hilarious. The kids were so tiny and just hanging on like there was no tomorrow. Yes, it sounds inhumane but there were rodeo clowns running next to them.
Steffer and I competed in the chicken chase and were all hyped up to dive after a chicken but the boys forgot their manners and took over. Stupid boys.
It was a very good weekend but I better get back to my projects. And Snickers, I miss you! Come home to me soon and drive safe!
Have a great day :)
An excerpt of my favorites:
- Listen to 33rpm records at 45rpm speed, and claim the faster speed is necessary because of your "superior mental processing".
- Sing along at the opera.
- Invent nonsense computer jargon in conversations, and see if people play along to avoid the appearance of ignorance.
- Sit in your front yard pointing a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.
- Change your name to John Aaaaasmith for the great glory of being first in the phone book. Claim it's a Hawaiian name, and demand that people pronounce each A.
- I've actually considered doing this one
- Deliberately hum songs that will remain lodged in co-workers' brains, such as "Feliz Navidad," the Archies' "Sugar" or the Mr. Rogers theme song.
- Follow a few paces behind someone, spraying everything they touch with a can of Lysol.
- Sculpt your hedges into anatomically suggestive shapes.
- Calvin and Hobbes anyone?
- Pretend your mouse is a CB radio, and talk to it.
- Lick the filling out of all the Oreos, and place the cookie parts back in the tray.
- At the laundromat, use one dryer for each of your socks.
- If it wasn't so darn expensive...............
- Push all the flat Lego pieces together tightly.
- Light road flares on a birthday cake.

JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG duh duh dun!
Heh. An older gentleman who works in my office started blasting that from his computer today. It was after he got a message to call a person named Jeremiah. I think you had to be there but it was mildly humorous.
Okay, I laughed. A lot. You just have to know the office.
I really have nothing inspiring or humorous to write today. I'm procrastinating a test right now. It's a beautiful day outside and I really just want to run to my favorite spot and think, or talk with someone. I've got someone in mind.
I wanted to go to Montana with Snickers this weekend but, alas, it is not to be. Finals are in a week and it's crazy.
And remember, no jaywalking!
Have a great day :)

I'm viewing the world from a different angle today.
Tilted.
Somehow this morning, while I was taking a shower, I pinched a nerve in my neck. This nerve now prohibits me from aligning my head vertically. It forces me to lean it to the right to avoid pain and cramping.
I was honestly just standing there when I felt this sharp pain that almost made me pass out. It took some pretty stealth moves to get from the shower to my room and dressed. And then to class.
My posture is better though. I have to sit up straight to avoid pain.
And a random girl told me she liked my hair on my walk to class this morning. Life is still good.
Have a great day :)

As Snickers has been reminding me it's (*gasp*) been a few days and I guess I need to post. Lots has happened.
I fell in love last night with him. I'm serious. He's got curly brown hair, has an Irish accent, a gorgeous voice, dresses amazingly well, is funny, and not only sings professionally but has an engineering degree and career as well. He's perfect. Our eyes met a few times after the concert and I know he feels the same way. He'll be back for me after his tour. I feel it.
Friday night was perfect. Good friends, fun music, driving at night, and Lava Hot Springs. Snickers, I love your truck. Not much can beat that.
I have a new friend named Jake. I acquired him on Friday as I was walking through the MC. They were having a plant sale and Jake caught my eye and continued to hold my attention. Actually, I think it was the sign nestled amongst his leaves that read "Sale $2.50" where "$10.00" had originally been that I found most attractive. Either way, he is now in my apartment in a green pedestal pot and looks rather dashing. I hope his flowers are yellow.
On April 7, 2007, I want to be here, watching him. I'm determined.
The police scene here is pathetic. Today, they were ticketing groups of people walking to church. No lie. I would have been among those ticketed had I left for church on time (see, being late has its advantages!). The offenders each received a $20 jaywalking violation. I think that speaks for itself. Wow.
The ducks are laying eggs. All of the females were waddling around with there backsides dragging against the ground. Pretty soon there will be little ducklings. I'm excited.
The weather has been beautiful and I love it. I must go enjoy it!
Happy Birthday Dylan! Much love kid.

There is a boy in my ward with a really long name that he's really proud of. Most of you will know who I'm talking about. And you'll know how I feel about him. I laugh. I really try not to because it's rude and everyone is entitled to their differences. But, is it really that wrong that I find mild humor in someone's mannerisms? I'm okay with people laughing at me (within reasonable limits).
However, he just introduced himself to me for the fourth time this semester like it was the first time we'd met and yes, I got to hear all five names roll off his tongue like he rehearses it in the shower periodically.
"Yes, [insert really long, lyrical name here], we've met before. We actually go to church together and you've been over to see my roommates numerous times. I commented on your bright orange shoes, observed your dancing at Latin night, and refused to hang out at your house one evening because I had other plans."
Do I have to hear the name every time?
But then, this time, he asks me what I'm studying. You'd think that a polar bear had just shown up wearing a bikini with the reaction I got when I replied, "Information Systems". I won't form any speculations (okay, you're right, they're formed, but I won't typographically verbalize them) but I think we have two very different opinions on the world.
I'm not mad, I just thought it was funny. He's funny. That's all.
I should never go to the library at night and try to get work done because I run into too many people that I know and I just get distracted. Jammin was here and Tyler (Snickers, I did a pretty stylish double-take when I realized that I was actually seeing him in the flesh, in the library.) and Tanner. Boys, boys, boys. I need to focus.
But they make life fun. Only three hours to go on my literature project and one on my programming project! I'll be in bed by 3am!
Have a great day :)

Rexburg is really pretty at 3 in the morning.
Steffer and I couldn't sleep after we finished our homework at 2am this morning so we decided to go for a run. The weather was warm and the town was silent. There wasn't even a breeze. Just the sounds of our feet hitting the pavement and the occasional grunts as we pushed up the hills. It was absolutely beautiful.
The funny thing was that we weren't the only ones out there running that, uhhhhh, early. We ran into two girls from our ward who couldn't sleep either. Crazy, but so much fun.
We ran for 1 1/2 hours, did some push-ups and crunches, visited Sydney (alias for my old roommate - who was still up doing homework) and finally, at 4am, decided that we had exhausted ourselves enough to fall asleep.
That theory proved true.
And I am, without any reservations, counting that as my workout for today.
Interested family parties:
I love you lots but contact this week will be quite limited because I am completely swamped. I'll be seeing you soon though and appreciate everything you do for me!
Have a great day :)

There's one good thing about daylight savings time ending. Okay two. Here they are:
1) It is so much easier to just push the hour key once on your clock instead of twenty-three times to set the correct time.
2) There's an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day!
There are many cons but I try to keep these posts upbeat and optimistic so I won't list them. You can probably imagine what they are though. The first one on that list begins with an 'S' and is what I wish I were doing right now. I probably won't be doing a whole lot of it this week. That is all I will type about that.
Nix requested that her alias be changed to Snickers because she thinks that Nix refers to this. I should tell her that it could refer to this also but she still probably won't be impressed. So, Snickers it is. And I must thank Snickers for looking out for my romantic well-being and inviting "that" boy over. I was there this time (for his first visit)! I promise that I won't force Snickers to invite him over for me again. But she could put some more good words in for me.......
And, I just checked my facebook and discovered that TunaFishOil is not content either. Apparently she thinks that a cereal is better than a fish antioxidant. She will now be known as Special K. Special K and Snickers. We must like food.
Today was a beautiful day and I went out and enjoyed it. Absolutely beautiful. There's still ice but it is slowly receding.
Don't get your hopes up though because I'm sure it will snow this week. A lot.
Have a great day :)

I'm optimistic.
Whenever I come back from the laundromat with an un-matched sock, I say to myself, "Wow! I gained a sock!" That is, until I realize that I used to have a lot more than six pairs of socks. Someone or something somewhere has got to actually be gaining socks though. Somewhere in this universe there is a pile of uber dimensions made entirely of socks. A large portion of them are mine. I miss them. So do my feet.
Some of them didn't even have holes in them yet.........those are the real losses.
If anyone is ever craving ice, go to Sonics. I only go there for ice because it's cheap and has the funnest texture to chew. I almost like it more than ice cream which is good for the caloric intake. The order usually goes like this:
Some underpaid high schooler: "Welcome to Sonics, may I take your order?"
Me: "Yes, I'd like a Route 44 of ice."
Some underpaid high schooler: "Just the ice?"
Me: "Yes, just ice."
Some underpaid high schooler: "No water?"
Me: "No water in the liquid state, I just want it frozen into tiny, chewable pellets."
Some underpaid high schooler: "Okay, is that everything?"
Me: "Sure is"
Some underpaid high schooler: "That'll be $0.43 for the cup and straw"
Me: "Do you take checks?"
A Route 44 of ice from Sonics comes highly recommended by me. Sometimes, it even smells like glazed donuts. Weird, I know, but I've had this opinion confirmed by three other people. Check it out for yourself.
If my camera's battery hadn't died I would be posting pictures of the huge fort in my living room. TunaFishOil and Nix took all six mattresses from out apartment, along with the two couches, and many sheets and blankets and constructed them into a circus-tent-like structure around the T.V. It's really cool because we can hide under the couches in their tipped-over positions. That's were I slept last night and will be sleeping again tonight. Forts are fun, and our is almost impenetrable.
Here's the dumb rule of the week:
If you get locked out of your apartment at curfew or any other time of the day and the RA happens to be around, she won't unlock the door for you unless you have $5 to give her right then. It says in the rule book that she will lose her job if she is caught letting anyone into their apartment if they haven't paid her. Isn't that just convenient? Like I'm going to say to myself when I leave my apartment, "Oh, I'm going to get locked out tonight so I think I'll bring $5 so the RA can let me in". Yup. That's it. Not! It costs nothing to ring the doorbell 50 times until one of your roommates hears you or to just remove the screen from the window.
I've got other options, thanks.
Have a great day :)

I saw Superman walking around campus today. I'm not even kidding, he was wearing brown loafers and shouldering a blue Jansport backpack. And he had a cape.
No, he didn't rescue me, but he did smile. He's a lot skinnier than I remembered him being in the movies. And the features of his face weren't as chiseled.
What some people will do for attention.
I need groceries. And peanut M&Ms....in an envelope...Mom?

I've got a lot of homework to do before tomorrow morning, but I'm just sitting here staring with satisfaction at my home page. I have been thinking long and hard about it and spending a lot of seemingly fruitless hours trying to come up with a design that I like. The biggest challenge was creating something that lived up to its name. I think I've done that. Within the next few days, all of the pages will have the CSS applied to them and I'll be that much closer to having a site worth visiting!
I got a free dinner tonight. Soup in a bread bowl, one of my favorites. Tasty!
It was sunny and mild again today which did wonders for my morale. Not that my morale's been bad but it just busted through its normal high zone. Hopefully it will stay mild through the morning so I can enjoy a run without wind and snow!
If my sis is reading this, know that I'm so proud of you for doing speech and sticking it through the season. I know you tried your best and if you want to rant and rave about the artsy liberal judges, I'm all ears. Remember, I've been there too. Three years in a row. You're super amazing and so talented...much love Norkie! (That's the best alias I could come up for you)
Okay, the marginal costs are now outweighing the benefits. I must return to my programming homework, which, I must say, I actually enjoy.

Today is a great day and prayers are answered!
I got two hours of sleep because, like the post below states, I was up with Milford trying to write a program that displays balls bouncing around. It was actually a lot of fun and I was wide awake until 4:30am. Def Leppard kept a beat for me.
I finally went to bed for 2 hours. Steffer's alarm went of for minutes twice during those precious two hours. The first time I (half-awake) attacked the alarm , pushed every button I could grope, and eventually ended up pulling the cord thinking that would do it.
It has battery back-up.
The second time I turned the volume all the way down, threw it on the floor, and then finally found the "off" switch. It wasn't a button.
Then I shoved her some time later when my alarm actually went off and I thought it was hers. It's actually kind of funny now.
She made up for it later by handing me a waffle as I ran out the door.
The sun is shining and there's no wind today!
The main reason why it's a good day is because I finally got my program to work just seconds before class started. It all came down to one line of code! But, I still have a lot to do. And I'm sure I'm going to hit an "exhaustion wall" sometime today. I've got to get as much done as I can while I'm still on my weird, "no-sleep buzz". Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Have a great day :)

Here I sit, on my bed, with Milford, at a very early hour, on a Monday morning. (That's a lot of commas. Fun.)
Why am I awake? You might ask.
Because I have a program due in six hours that I am trying to complete.
I'm running on a very interesting schedule right now. I'll program for a while, then take a short nap, and then return to full consciousness again to repeat the process. I have a feeling that today could be a very interesting day. My behavior might be slightly erratic.
It is funny to listen to Steffer. She talks in her sleep and sometimes it's intelligible. Right now she seems stressed. At least she's asleep.
Well, I probably should get back to work. This program really has me baffled and I can't figure out why it won't fill a circle for me. I don't understand the Graphics class.
Boo!
Harold's keeping me company though. I love that fish.
Have a great day :)

I didn't fall asleep at work today.
And they fed me lunch. Left-overs from the Dean's reception. Good food.
I got to eat dinner at Craigo's with Nix and her mom and sister. The best part was watching the couple right across from us who was obviously on their first date. The boy was really engaging and the girl looked like she was just in it for the free meal. You should have seen how meticulously they both were eating their pizza. It was hilarious. Who ever thought that someone's date could be someone else's mid-dinner entertainment? I got in a few good laughs. But, it did remind me of a few dates that I've been on. Never again. My dates now are going much better because they're with friends and we can just relax and have a good time. That's the way to go.
I named my car Babar. I don't know if I told anyone that. It's official now.
I'm going to DI next week as a reward for getting my 40-hour literature project done (I've still got 20 hours left). It's about time I found another random object to become obsessed with and name. What will it be? If you want to come...ask Babar.
Cross country ski trip tomorrow morning with Steffer. I need to go find my snowpants.
Have a great day :)

It's light out when I walk to class in the morning. That is, until Daylight Savings Time ends soon. I'll enjoy it while it lasts though.
The career fair was today! It was so much fun! I got to talk to a lot of companies and got some good prospects for my internship in a year and also for possible careers. Plus, I might have even secured a job for a web design company here in Rexburg! We'll see how that goes.
After perusing through the various booths, I decided to announce my presence to my boss and she put me to work handing out popcorn. Actually, I had to force students to fill out surveys and then give them popcorn as an incentive. It was really fun though because I got to see both El Gregories, Chris, Randallin, Becca, and other various friends.
Even better was the cute guy, who apparently works in the same office just at a different time, that was flirting with me and being quite the gentleman all day. That was fun but I couldn't find a smooth way to drop him a hint that I was indeed single so this might take a while. We'll see.
And the moment you've all been waiting for. As you probably know, all of the companies at the career fair are here to get there names out and they have some pretty unique ways of doing it. I give the following as my favorite company freebies:
5) Smith's frisbee
4) MulitCare pen with post-it notes inside
3) American Lung Association silly putty
2) Centex Homes thermos (really nice!)
1) Intermountain Health Care key chain floss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say that the floss key chain is my ultimate favorite because I always want floss but never have it. Now I do! I love freebies.
I'm almost done...
Today, as I walked around campus, I noticed some things. I looked at my black shoes, then glanced at my black pants. My gaze then moved to my black coat and black mittens. Then I realized that I was shouldering a black backpack carrying a black computer and black pens. If that wasn't enough, I had a black thermos in my left hand.
I swear I'm not gothic. Just check my socks.
I decided that my outer clothes need to reflect the crazy fun person wearing them, like my underclothes do.
My outside needs color.
And my feet need teenage-mutant ninja turtle socks. Ebay?
Oh! I almost forgot to write about the fireworks! I decided I needed a little study break last night so I made hot chocolate, dragged Steffer out of the library and we went on a walk around campus, with perfect timing! It's Spirit Week this week so they were have the opening ceremonies and a fireworks show!
The fireworks were so amazing! I was jumping around like a little kid and can't describe how giddy and excited they made me. I'm so looking forward to the 4th of July...IF has a pretty sweet show, or so I hear.
Okay, last story, I promise. I got to hang with Jammin tonight! It was way fun. We went to see a planetarium show about Einsten (pi day - 3.14.07), walked through the college's gem and mineral collection, play duets on Calvin and Suzy in the Barrus concert hall in the dark, and then eat *pananas back at my apartment. I can't think of a better way to spend a Thursday night!
That is all. Actually, it's not, but I've probably lost all my readers by now. I just have so many cool things to tell.
Have a great day!
Much love :)
*Panana - A banana cut in half lengthwise, spread with peanut butter, drizzled in honey, and then topped with the other half. Simply amazing and highly recommended.
