^^ does this state ever end? is how i feel embarking on any road trip. ^^
^^ the most-important thing when summer camping in texas ^^
Palo Duro Canyon is "The Grand Canyon of Texas" and second-largest canyon in the states to the actual Grand Canyon. I have yet to see the Grand Canyon and I hadn't heard of Palo Duro until a few weeks ago when we were planning this trip, but it was close to Caprock Canyons so we made the drive up there for the day.
It didn't disappoint.
^^ "one day simba, all that the light touches will be yours." ^^
We did the Lighthouse Trail and started around noon so it was HOT. Stops every 15 minutes for the dog quickly became every 10 minutes quickly became every patch of shade. He made a beeline from tree-cover to tree-cover, dug himself a little hole, and plopped in it. Not the quickest way to hike but we made it alive!
^^ i swear he recognizes the camera and looks away on purpose. i like his style. ^^
^^ no snake encounters at palo duro! just lots of lizards. ^^
^^ "guys, i am SO DONE hiking" ^^
Roscoe filed his official petition to stop hiking for the day after the Lighthouse trail. Crawled under the car and would not come out. I think the ground was a little hot for his poor puppy pads. We did a few really short hikes to scenic points but mostly let him recover.
I think he has some pup booties on his Christmas list...
^^ awkward family photos? ^^
^^ i loooooooove this picture ^^
^^ a tired pup is a good pup ^^
And that's that. Palo Duro was fun. The Powerade slushie on the drive home was incredible. I would go back. Or live in one of the fancy new homes on the canyon's edge. Whichever comes first.
Have a great day :-)
