Canyoneering in southern Utah this past week was nothing short of awesome. I got a school-excused absence from all of my classes, the weather was much warmer than in Rexburg (even at night), good food, plenty of adventures, and a really fun group of people to share it all with. While it was nothing short of exhausting, I would prefer canyoneering over classes anyday. And now I am forced to step back into classes and focus for another month before I graduate. It's a struggle.
These pictures are pretty low-quality but they're pictures. I didn't want to take my camera because the canyons can be brutal but Sidekick took her video camera and we were able to take a few still shots. I should have more pictures eventually from other people on the trip and our instructor.
This is a shot of one of the many "beautiful vistas" I got to enjoy. This one was especially enjoyable because we had just climbed up-canyon and it took some effort. I definitely got myself wedged and stuck a few times. It was nothing short of awkward.
My first (non-military-style) rappel! If I look cold, I'm not. It was windy and I didn't like the sound the wind made when it hit my helmet. Hence the hood.
A very attractive picture of me displaying the canyon. The walls were huge and painted in gorgeous colors. Probably one of my favorites though the pictures doesn't do it justice.
Tah-dah! Getting all ready for the first day of canyons. I'm being serious when I say I love camping in the desert in sand. It's a lot more comfortable than solid ground and just fun to play in. Plus, it's easier to bury your poo.
Sidekick and I loaded up and ready to go. We only had to walk a block with all of our gear but it was a really long block. We packed a lot of stuff...
In short, I fell in love with southern Utah and redrock. It will definitely be a vacation destination in the future.
Random note: Congratulations to Morgie and Smil and their volleyball team! I wish I had ~$800 floating around so I could go watch them in the 2008 State Volleyball Championships. I am way excited for both of them! I also can't wait to party with Morgie in Utah for a couple days before driving back to Nebraska for Thanksgiving.
These next 3 weeks are going to be exciting! Heck, I graduate in a month, these next few months are going to be exciting. And then I'll become a corporate citizen and be boring for the rest of my life.
Never.
Have a great day :)
