It's crazy how one day can scramble all the plans you thought were set in stone.
When I woke up this morning, my life was planned out for the next couple years. I was going to do my internship with USAA in San Antonio this summer, come back for two semesters to knock out a business minor, graduate in April of 09, and then go back to work at USAA for a few years.
Not so.
I will spare you the gory, boring details but it is now impossible for me to pursue a business minor. It was a shock at first but I think it's kind of a relief now. I wasn't overly excited about the program (even though I love business) and it just seemed boring to have a CIT major with a business minor. I think I've always wanted more variety. A little spice on my academic table.
So, I've got a few ideas floating around in my head. I'm pretty excited about all of them but a few things have to "work out" first so mum's the word until I hear back from external sources.
It's kind of a cool feeling having my life up-in-the-air again and exploring new options. I need to never get so set in my ways that I don't look for alternative paths that might actually yield better outcomes.
Life is fun.
And so is my new punching bag! Sidekick and I made a little investment. I basically traded an old calculator for it. I find it very useful. And quite aerobic. Makes for a good break from a computer screen.
It's a keeper!

I don't want to rub it in too much but I took a ski day, had a lot of fun, explored a new mountain, lived, accidentally traversed a black diamond run, killed my quads, and enjoyed the day.
In more exciting news, I have developed a crush on Papageno from Mozart's "The Magic Flute". I saw it tonight and loved that character. The guy playing him had a beautiful baritone voice (I think I'm a sucker for baritones) and the most infectious smile. Very fun. And I don't even know what he looks like in real life. He had a LOT of make-up on.
I was giddy for a while though. Probably still am.
Now I have to get back to work.
But all I can think about is that Papageno! I want to meet the man that played him. Argh! And I did it again. When I accidentally ran into him (still dressed-up) in the lobby after the show, I couldn't talk to him. The whole encounter just took me by surprise and I gave my own smile (not quite as infectious) and ran off.
Dang it! One of these days I will actually talk to the boys I like.
Maybe.
Have a great day :)

There is little that can compare to the intensity of typing on the keyboard to the beats of 'Phantom of the Opera'.
I'll let you picture that.

I am going on a nerd trip with the Linux Society tomorrow to tour the IT departments at Intermountain Healthcare and Novell. And eat at P.F. Changs. Should be fun. But, what I really wanted to do was go skiing at Targhee! I don't have any classes because of the business summit and I can work Friday morning and afternoon. Such a hard choice! But, I'm doing what I should be doing.
I will go skiing one more time before Targhee closes though. Mark my words.
I spent half of last night testing out a sleeping bag in my parking lot. It worked great. Kept me nice and warm. The only problem is that it does not have any kind of bathroom facilities. So, I ended up back in the house shortly before three and decided to sleep in my bed from that point on. It was such a pretty night too!
Ummmm, what else? I went night skiing on Saturday and the lights on the mountain went off about a half hour early. I had to ski down the rest of the run in almost complete blackness. It was like my eyes were closed. I got some serious motion sickness and almost puked. I was actually pretty hammered from that entire day. I went on a long run, then to a self-defense class, then ran errands, and then went skiing. Over-exertion.
And then I ate.
I'm not feeling very creative writing my blog right now. I'm just kind of saying it like it is.
Not much more exciting news. Oh yeah, Happy late Birthday Smilly! You are now 14 and entering the crazy world of church dances. Enjoy.
I'm sleepy.

I think I need to buy toilet paper.
This is what transpired just minutes ago:
Upon being informed that we were out of toilet paper, I took a brief jaunt to the bathroom to confirm the report. After verifying the report, I began a little stroll around the house and found myself analyzing various items for their use as toilet paper. This was the consensus:
I love that girl. Now I need a secret stash of TP so I don't have to walk around the house trying to find the best substitute!
Let this be a lesson for all. If you have any other ideas of possible toilet paper substitutes, I would love to hear them.
And again......
Have a great day :)

Upon being informed that we were out of toilet paper, I took a brief jaunt to the bathroom to confirm the report. After verifying the report, I began a little stroll around the house and found myself analyzing various items for their use as toilet paper. This was the consensus:
- Towels - Gross! They do not get washed often enough as it is.
- Plastic grocery bags - Ummmmmmm, probably not the most absorbent option.
- Cereal boxes - Too much chaffing potential. Sharp corners also undesirable.
- Paper grocery bags - Definitely a possibility. Kind of scratchy but manageable if no other options present themselves.
- Wrappers in trash - If sanitation means nothing, yes. Doable.
- Dryer sheets - Relatively soft, scented, and would probably mask farts.
I love that girl. Now I need a secret stash of TP so I don't have to walk around the house trying to find the best substitute!

Haha, I just had to get a good chuckle at Elizabeth's comment on the last post. Not a bad idea........maybe I could get some money out of the ski lodge! There's gotta be something against having mud that looks like ice. I mean, McDonalds sells hot coffee. That's worth a lawsuit! And I am in need of some extra cash........the wheels are spinning.
But, the real reason for this post is this: Is it wrong of me to be fantasizing the sweltering, suffocating, dreadfully hot summer nights that await me this summer? I'm just imagining myself standing on the balcony at night, being dazzled by the city lights and sounds, and having the hot, humid mist consume me. That sounds like the most peaceful, wonderful thing right now.
And if you'll excuse me, I have to bundle up for my trek home from the lab.
These icy blasts make the lazy days of summer seem so far away......
On a slightly happier note, I just want to give a shout-out to my sister! Go Morgie! For many reasons.
Have a great day :)

I had a fabulous weekend going on fun adventures and spending some time with an old friend. It ranks up there with some of the best weekends this semester.
But it still doesn't beat Vegas.
However, I do have a story.
First, imagine me skiing. I'm doing very good, getting my carving mastered, going faster, and all-in-all felling very comfortable on the skis. Ripping up the slopes, if you will.
And imagine me not losing my skis the entire night! Normally I have a few crashes that require an extensive hike back up the mountain to rescue awol equipment.
Now, imagine the end of the night. The lifts have just closed and I'm skiing in from my last run. My car is deep in the parking lot and I figure it's relatively covered in enough snow that I should be able to ski across it and avoid the awkward walk that ski boots produce. So, I'm cruising along when my ski hits what I thought was ice but actually turns out to be frozen mud and just stops. My body keeps going until it's flattened against this muddy plane. This change in direction creates a very awkward landing that sends my shoulder into a position not on the list of acceptable shoulder positions and begs that I contort my legs in accordance with my skis.
Did I take the time to imagine what I looked like? No. Not only did I biff it in the parking lot, I ate it in front of a bunch of guys changing outside their car. Of course. And I had to fight back tears as I pushed myself back into a vertical position and pretended to be okay. I honestly thought at the time that I had dislocated my shoulder because there was a very noticeable pop that occurred.
However, as of today, my pride is fully recovered and my arm is just slightly tender.
Thanks for asking.
As for those guys, I'm sure they're still having a good laugh. I guess that's what I'm here for.
Moral of the story: don't try to ski through the parking lot. When the lift ends, the skis come off.
Have a great day :)

I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Joshie on February 27. It was his golden birthday. So, Happy Birthday Joshie! Don't die.
And, I forgot to make a post on Leap Year Day. Sadness. Now I have to wait another four years for that opportunity.
El Gregory surprised me (and many others) with a visit this weekend! He had to come back up and rub in what a wonderful feeling it is to have a real job and be earning money. I guess he can rub it in as much as he likes as long as he buys me icecream (which he did). Such a crazy guy. I hope to be doing some traveling with him sometine in the near future.
Special K and her sister also came down from Montana! It's been a fun weekend shopping, eating, talking, and watching movies like old times. If only I was on spring break too and could have fun without worrying about what's due this week.
This post is probably really boring. My sincerest apologies. I have no outrageously funny stories to recount at this time.
Only that I slipped on the ice in front of a really old man on my way to the duck pond this morning. He tried not to laugh. I will give him an A for effort.
Have a great day :)
