Yoo 262 - 18.4 Reasons I Love Working for USAA

In light of today's announcement of our company bonus, I thought I'd list 18.4 reasons I love working for USAA.  I don't love every day of work, but I am so blessed to work for such a great company and I never want to forget that or take it for granted.

1.)  Strong mission focus.  It's not just a statement painted on a wall.  It's reviewed at the start of every major meeting and all business objectives are mapped back to it.
2.)  All member-focused.  Genuinely.  I asked a question when I first interviewed with them almost 4 years ago.  "USAA advertises a strong member focus...do you feel as though that's the case working behind the scenes?".  Both interviewers strongly affirmed that it was.  After being there for over 3 years now, I can also strongly affirm that it's true.
3.)  Great leadership.  Most have extensive military careers behind them.  I trust our top executives and respect them as honest, caring people.
4.)  Great people.  I can't complain about any of my coworkers.  And just about everyone I meet there is amiable and kind and hard-working.  It's a great work family.
5.)  Emphasis on a healthy lifestyle.  Great fitness center and classes, cheaper health-food items in the cafeterias, and you're rewarded with cheaper medical benefits for participating in these opportunities.
6.)  Opportunities for employee-development.  At least 25 hours is required per year and there are a variety of classes offered year-round.
7.)  Opportunities for rotation.  Don't like your current position?  There are thousands more to choose from.  And the management will honestly try to move you around if you request it.
8.)  Great speakers.  I've listened to and met Gene Kranz, Mike Durant (Black Hawk Down pilot), Newt Gingrich, John Blaha, Eileen Collins, and scores of other favorites.  There's someone interesting coming to speak just about every month.
9.) Nice facilities.  My cubicle's a little small, but the building as a whole is massive and well-cared for.  There's plenty of room to roam, gather, meet, relax, walk, and just about anything else you need to do.
10.)  Innovation is encouraged.  Every employee, from janitors to executives, is encouraged to participate and there are excellent channels set up for this.
11.)  Cool programs offered like Nuride.  I get incentives for riding my bike to work like gift cards to use in the cafeterias, coupons for groceries, restaurant deals, and more.
12.)  Rec sports leagues!  I can play on a soccer team or a volleyball team or a basketball team or a flag football team...and the list goes on.
13.)  A company band and choir!  One of my favorites!  I get to keep playing my horn in a company-sponsored group with other band nerd employees.  We put on several really cool free concerts each year.  It's a blast.
14.)  It truly feels ethical.  Honestly.  Integrity.  Loyalty.  Service.  These are the guiding traits that every employee agrees to live and work by and it's taken seriously.
15.)  Uh, they serve our military families.  Enough said.
16.)  The health benefits are good.  Definitely adds to my peace of mind.
17.)  I kind of love having a post office, pharmacy, and medical center at work.  That's convenient.
18.)  I get to be a member.  Best bank and insurance company ever.
.4.)  They always announce the yearly bonus the week of my birthday.  So it's like "Happy birthday Teagan...you have a very large paycheck coming your way."  And I don't hate that.
^ this isn't a very good reason...hence why it's only .4

Don't ever let me complain about my job, ok?

That's all.

Have a great day :-)
