As I was getting ready to leave my wedding reception some 9 months ago, my grandpa came up to me with his big smile and eyes filled with sparkly tears. He hugged me and bid farewell with a somber, "I don't know when I'll get to see you again."
I mean shoot, (< --that is a VERY important comma...) grandpa, I was fighting back tears already!
That goodbye stuck with me and I remember declaring to the Gregman as we were driving off that night: "We're going to go visit my grandpa!"
And then it took the better part of a year to get schedules to coordinate and plane ticket prices to drop, but last weekend...we made it.
Partially thanks to Morgie who got her class and work schedules to go on without her and agreed to be our third wheel with the four wheels. She's an entertaining third wheel. Her car was bonus.
"I can see how that would have been scary for you."
"So we're taxiing down the runway, right...and we kind of hit a moose."
"I'm flipping you an ace!"
Apologies for all of the inside jokes that have and will slip in here. Moving on.
We stopped at WinCo, ate bagel sandwiches and chocolate-covered cinnamon bears, incredulously discussed how ridiculously easy it is for my giant husband to sleep on airplanes/cars/anything anywhere while he was sleeping in the backseat, and then decided a drive through City of Rocks on our way to grandpa's was a worthy detour.
^^ i was so scared to jump for that picture...hence my two inch vertical...
And then there were cows.
Being herded down a dirt road heading right for us.
It. Was. Awesome.
We stopped and watched the cows pass!
Coming from someone who grew up in Nebraska, cows should not be that exciting. But they are.
Then an unfortunate exchange.
That exchange being an unintentionally seductive "Hello" directed towards a cowboy on a horse that suddenly appeared out my window.
Apparently I can sound seductive when I'm surprised?
The cowboy gave me the most appalled look and got out of there. So I spent the rest of the trip mortified at how I was going to be the topic of some dinner conversation between him and his wife that night. Also, trying to convince a certain Greg ego that I wasn't hitting on another man.
I wasn't trying to sound seductive!
This is where I get tired and leave the rest of the stories and pictures for another time.
Have a great day :-)
