Yoo 472 - The Rest Of Our Idaho Tales

Once upon a weekend, four score and negative 77 weekends ago, we went to Idaho. I've mentioned this before, now the details.

I found old applesauce fruit leather in my grandpa's cellar and I ate it. It was a real treasure, too, because I was sure we cleaned him out of fruit leather on our last visit and then lo and behold! A rogue can was discovered. The leather was at least 3 years old and it didn't even make me sick. Is that something to brag about?

I still love the stuff, as ancient as it's getting.

Morgie then decided to be boring and sleep, as college students nearing finals do, and so I took my Gregman on a grand tour of Eden. Five minutes later we were done.

Just kidding...we stopped to swing and buy hamburger buns at the gas station ($3.50 for 8...a crime!) so it was more like twenty minutes.

Pickled onions are the bomb.

The nextest day I let my Gregory sleep in and convinced Morgie to just do "a quick workout" with me. "Just some lunges and squats and back extensions...and maybe a jog to warm-up."  I left out the part where we were doing 300 feet of walking lunges, 150 squats, and 75 back extensions. Details.

Welcome to CrossFit sister!

Except she was really pushing me. I would be in a lot better shape if I had her as my workout buddy...but we would really hate each other at the same time, is the moral of that story.

Then we gathered round the breakfast table for buttermilk hotcakes. Grandpa was the cook and we did not go hungry. Ready for 3 more, Greg?

This is a riveting play-by-play, I know. Wait for bowling.

...

Here it is.

Morgie was obviously sore from the morning.

Grandpa was rockin' it and I will always and forever love his jumpsuits. Pretend you don't see bumpers on our lane...

I got frustrated once or twice.

Grandpa bowled a turkey. Also, one of my favorite smiles, albeit blurry.

And what's that? We all bowled over a hundred? Bumpers! Grandpa didn't even use the bumpers and he still shamed us. Man forgot to mention he was a pretty good bowler in a past life.

One of ze aunts dragged half of her family over to spend the day with us. We made pizza for dinner and this is my favorite picture because she's in the back trying to decide if the vanilla I bought in Mexico 5 years ago is any good. Meanwhile grandpa is probably pondering how long the pizzas need to bake, or something, and then there's us in the middle, trying to document the moment.

The old swing will always be a favorite.

Motion picture with my bum in focus, of course.

Ze other aunt brought her family down on Sunday and we enjoyed a day with them and most of our cousins. This little doo-hicky at the park was favorite.

We tried to play tag but it was really pathetic. At least the grown-ups chasing each other around was. Eventually we figured out that the younger ones were a lot faster and actually enjoyed the chase so we just started tagging them and sending them off after someone else.

I pulled them all the way to the park in that rickety old wagon. And I think all of Eden was giving me the stink eye because of the noise that created...and the dogs that felt the need to chime in.

Our last morning there, we really wanted hotcakes. It took us a couple hours to find the recipe because grandpa was at work and the Kyoo mom wasn't answering her phone. When we found the recipe, we followed it EXACTLY.

And the hotcakes were nothing like grandpa's.

I know this isn't the most tragic story I've ever told, but it still bothers me that I do not have the magic touch with hotcakes! This is not the first time I've failed at recreating them...

Leaving Idaho. We had a couple hours and met up with the Smilmeister in downtown Salt Lake City.

That's me, dressed like Christmas. And Smil-ey (not to be confused with smile-y...) less than a week away from her first marathon!

Also related, I think I should sweep my hair to the side more often...I'm almost photogenic right there.

One cannot simply visit Temple Square without taking a few flower pictures.

It was such a relaxing weekend. I love visiting family in Idaho. And it was especially fun to show Greg around one of my favorite places and introduce him to everyone. If only it was easier and cheaper to get there!

In other news, Trax has extended their green line all the way to the airport and it saved our return trip home. We came really close to missing that flight...

Have a great day :-)

You'd better visit me the next time you're in SLC or I will hunt you down!

Nicole...I knew I was going to get yelled at for that! We originally had a late flight Monday evening and I was going to see if you and Steve would do dinner/show us your home! I was really excited and looking forward to this and then Delta moved our flight up to 5 and there was time for nothing. Can we just hate Delta and be friends?

Maybe we can. I'm still nursing wounds from being subjected to all of the jealousy of your New Zealand trip. And in response to your comment on my blog, I can't believe how time flies either! It's almost been a year since your wedding and I saw you last! It's insane!
