Kyoo 170 - The Green Bra Story

Buzz Lightyear to the rescue! Haha, this is the picture they had displayed on NASA's shuttle website. I thought it was cute. Discovery's ferry flight path didn't make it's way down to San Antonio this time. Though it did make stops in Amarillo and Fort Worth.

Enough of the space shuttle. Anyone remember my ripped crotch story? Well, I have another episode in "Such is the life of Kyooyoo". This one takes place late on a Saturday night in Target.

I had just spent 10 straight hours staring at a computer trying to finish up at work (remember, this is a Saturday) so my brain was pretty fried and all normal thought had ceased. On my way home I realized I was pretty hungry and pulled into the parking lot of HEB to get groceries. At this point, I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to buy groceries because I knew I'd end up buying the whole store. Well, this HEB happens to be next to a Target so I decided to go into Target to try on pants (that usually kills any appetite I have!).

So, I try on lots of different clothes and find a few things I like but in the process of going in and out of the fitting rooms I lose track of which ones I like and get sidetracked. In the unmentionables section. Sidetrack ceases and I walk out of the unmentionables section with a bright green-striped sports bra. Still not sure how that happened but it was on clearance and I was pretty pleased.

The story continues as my wandering around Target continues. I really should have gone to the checkout and left at that point because it was a little awkward carrying just the bra around. But, like I said, logical thought had ceased and I found myself poking about in the camping section, and then playing with some toys, and then rifling through frames in housewares. All while carrying this bright green bra.

Next thing I know, I'm leaving housewares to check out the crayons when, lo and behold, I run into *Creed Barter. If only you all knew Creed. I know Creed. He's in my ward. He was Elder's Quorum president for a while. He's currently the ward clerk. He's one of the most straight-edged men you will ever meet, at least what I know of him, and here I am, standing in front of him on a Saturday night in Target swinging my bright green sports bra around. Do not ask me how our conversation went. My mind was racing with the decision process of what to do with the bra!

"Should I shove it in my purse real fast? Would they see that on camera and think I'm shoplifting? That would definitely complicate this situation. Maybe he hasn't noticed it yet....oh Kyooyoo don't be stupid, he's noticed it. I could kind of crumple it up in my hand...no, it's on a hanger. Maybe if I put my arm behind my ba...yeah, that' stupid too. It will only draw attention to it. Should I wave it around and make it really noticeable? Would that dispel the awkwardness or make it more awkward? I probably shouldn't point this out in the conversation. Conversation? Conversation! Oh snap! We're having a conversation! What did he just say? I still have this bra in my hand. What do I do with this bra?!?!?!?! Is he waiting for me to say something?"

It was about at this point in my thought process that I realized that I had kind of walked away before whatever conversation we were having was over and I turned around to find him still looking at me. So, what did I do? I gave a small wave, WITH THE BRA HAND, and dashed into the lamp aisle. Smooth, I know.

Now at THIS point, you'd really think I'd have learned my lesson and just dropped the bra and left, but nope. That would be too normal of an ending for this story. What did I do? I wandered over to the electronics and ran into him AGAIN! Trust me, electronics is not where you want to be when you're carrying a bra through the store. There is a reason those two departments are on opposite-end, far-corners from each other. And I still don't learn my lesson. Because after stops in the books and then cards sections I finally reach the checkout in time for Mr. Creed Barter to pass by a third time. And I'm still carrying the bra.

Awesome.

And the story still isn't over because today at church, right as I'm leaving, he gives me a little nod and smile and remarks "Get everything you needed at Target last night?"

"Yes. Yes I did Creed. Thanks for noticing."

Ahhhh, such is the life of Kyooyoo. If it's unfathomable, it'll happen to me. So keep fathoming.

Have a great day :)

Kyoo 169 - DC Five

And for the final days of my DC trip:

That's right. Enough said.

Just kidding. Ok, again, out of order, lots of pictures! This is my view from my perch in the Charlotte airport. Again, I cannot say enough how much I love this airport! It's every traveler's dream. I sat here for hours watching the planes come and go, listening to the live piano music, sitting next to a tree, and enjoying super fast Internet. And mouthwash in the bathrooms. I LOVE this airport.

And I was pretty proud of the fact that I got all my stuff shoved into a little carry-on suitcase and backpack. The backpack looks like it's stuffed but that's just cause there's a big pillow stuffed in it. Ok, so it is stuffed, but really, I packed light. That's saying a lot for me. And it was soooo nice to have that pillow on the plane.

Imitating a statue.

Morgan and I wandered into a Barnes and Noble on our way back to the hotel Monday night and stayed for quite a while reading books from the comedy section and laughing our eyes dry.

The Old Post Office Pavillion! We played around in here for a little while and did some souvenir shopping. And ate greek food (documented below).

Just kidding, there's more. Here, we have quite the frieze dedicated to "Cereals". Gotta love the US Department of Agriculture. There was more to it but the focal point clearly is two naked (men???) supporting a shield for "Cereals". I didn't see the other sides of the building but my curiosity certainly is piqued. What's on those other sides? Shields for beans, carrots, and milk? The fact that there's only 4 sides on this building is kind of restricting if they were trying to represent all the food groups.

It's raining!!! I love rain.

Also from our (short) visit to the USDA, here's me taking off my belt. Well, Morgan's belt. I forgot mine at home and she was ever so kind to let me borrow her one and only for the whole trip. Anywho, my dad works for the USDA so naturally he was attracted to their advertised visitor's center. So, we go in the building, they make me go through this whole ordeal to get in where I have to take off my belt and empty my purse and more fun stuff, and when we get there, the visitor's center is nothing more than a small room with pictures of crops on the wall. I got into the Archives building to see the Declaration of Independence easier! I guess better safe than sorry, right?

My dad was in his conference on this day so Morgan and I set off to explore as much of DC as we could cram into one day. We played around at the botanical gardens for a while and had quite the time filming Steve Irwin-like episodes of the many plants we discovered. The Lipstick plant was definitely one of our favorite names. Along with Fruffles, Princess Astrid, and the Golden Polypody. Hehe. Pody. Like potty.

*covering mouth to stifle giggles*

Morgan relaxing by the reflecting pool of the Capitol. Kind of a fun place to hang. Especially with the ducks!!!

The museum of journalism. Or something like that. I can't remember the exact name. But outside of the museum they post the front page of every capital city's main newspaper. So here's us with Nebraska's Lincoln Journal Star! The same paper I delivered with my mom for a while way back when. Fond memories.

And, for Miss Swan, the Canadian Embassy!!! I went to a lot of effort to get video footage of the moment and, when I went to upload it that night, I realized that I didn't push the 'record' button through all of it. But, it was going to be good. I was playing "O Canada" on my phone and getting some cool angles of the building and the flag. But, alas, I guess it was not to be. I'm sure you can picture the looks I was getting from passer-bys though! Miss Swan, I did try.

It's an airplane coffin! Part of me thought it was kind of cool and the other part of me was a little disturbed.

We ate greek food for dinner at the Old Post Office. I wish I could upload the video from this but Morgie has it. It's up on her facebook if you're really interested. The slimy green thing I'm holding (I think it was called dolmas) was weird. Not horrible but certainly different. And the gyro was amazing!

We also spent a good chunk of time in the Holocaust Memorial Museum and that was a huge eye-opener. It's very in-depth. You're definitely exposed to stuff they can't put in textbooks. I still can't fully comprehend it. We walked out of there pretty sober.

On our final day in DC, Morgie and I ran the National Mall. It was awesome! We started at the Washington Monument, headed up to say hi to the Lincoln Memorial, wove our way over to the Jefferson Memorial (gorgeous!), and then on over to the Capital and back to the White House area. It was quite a run! Especially for fat old me. But I made it. We finished with big bowls of oatmeal from our favorite restaurant on the trip: Brown Bag! They had an oatmeal bar that still has me on an oatmeal kick. I love oatmeal right now.

It was kind of hard to say bye to my dad and Morgan. We were separated abruptly at security and got sent off into different terminals without realizing that we couldn't reach each other from the separate terminals. My gate was one away from being in their terminal too! So, I just had to say goodbye over the phone instead of giving them a hug. But, Thanksgiving isn't too far away so I'll get to see them soon. And I'll be up in Provo in a couple weeks with USAA and will get to spend time with Morgie!

And that rounds out my DC trip! Fun times.

Have a great day :)

Kyoo 168

Taking a little break from posting DC pictures. Ok, maybe a long break. I guess it's been almost two weeks since I last posted pics. Busy days!

In good news, I got on one of the college recruiting teams at work and get to go out to Idaho and Utah in October to help attract and interview interns and full time hires for next year. I'm quite excited! I've been interested in helping recruit almost since I was first recruited two years ago.

I'm still loving work. I have two awesome mentors. They're complete opposites which is great for me because I get to learn about data warehousing and corporate politics from two very different points of view. It's helpful and I love interacting with both of them. Plus, I can't hate all the opportunities I get to work paid overtime.

For FHE last week, we made ice cream in a bag. The activity went over really well and the ice cream was pretty good! Personally, I didn't think it was quite as cool as my "Fortifications" FHE where we built forts and read some of the war stories in Alma, but I'm not bitter. I just have to keep coming up with good ideas so if you have any, do share!

I discovered that adult multivitamins make me queasy. Which means I didn't take the kids gummy vitamins for years just because they tasted good..

I'm moving back to those. Not fun to throw-up every morning after taking a vitamin. It's probably because I take them on an empty stomach. But really, I'm looking for a legitimate excuse to go back to Gummy Bites. And I think this one counts. :)

I love clouds. I want to be up flying through them. Especially the really puffy ones that look like big mountains. It might just be that I'm missing the mountains. I mistyped the word "for" in a text the other day and instead typed "fir" and it made me miss the mountains. That and numerous other things. I want to be up in a cabin surrounded by changing trees with softly falling orange and golden and red leaves with a chocolate lab by my side. I'm so jonesing for the fall. And I won't get it here in Texas. But, back to the topic of this paragraph. Clouds make me want to fly. I really need to take at least one flight lesson to see how I like actually flying a plane. It's just so cool to fly around those huge clouds! It's a totally different world. Surreal.

Despite not getting much of a fall here, I still love Texas.

And the beach. I went down to Corpus with some friends for Labor Day and had my favorite Macho Gumbo at Pier 99 and then swam in the ocean for the rest of the day. And didn't see any jellyfish this time.

Have a great day :)
