Yoo 696 - Sleep Progression and Thirty-One

"Mom, I am never going to sleep. Ever."

"Seriously. This face isn't even tired."

"Not tired at all."

"Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......"

And now for today's notable events. There are a bunch of them!

First and foremost, EARTH DAY.

Ok, that and Greg's birthday. He turned 31.

I asked him what he wanted to do for the day and he just kept saying "make you happy". Probably because I'd been somewhat of a grouch (NEVER) the previous evening and it was carrying over a bit thru the morning. But let's not forget the fact that I'm working round-the-clock to keep his daughter alive! He said it with a fair bit of jest but I took him seriously when I settled in for a mid-day nap and woke up a lot more amiable. Happy birthday dear!

Just for fun, we tried this recipe for chocolate frosting made with avocado. It wasn't too bad...especially when paired with ice-cream. He also got Daylight Donut kolaches for breakfast and an afternoon hanging out with his sister and family.

And a sunny trip to the dog park. Skylar's first!

She slept thru it. Also, she loves being worn right now. And I love wearing her. It feels like I'm still pregnant. But better because I can listen to her noises and give her kisses. And take her off when I'm done.

Some more Skylar pics...

AND THIS IS HUGE...her first piece of mail!

She's official.

Last, a couple shots of my view from the rocking chair.

Pups often hangs out with me while I'm nursing. Sometimes he makes himself comfortable on my footstool. But mostly he squishes between either the chair and the wall or the chair and the crib. He's a good dog.

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 654 - Twenty-eight

Twenty-eight began with a 5:30 alarm and subsequent 9-minute snooze. Then another 9-minute snooze. Then kicking of Greg to get him out of bed. I was delightfully grumpy and acting accordingly.

Texts from mom and dad.

Assuming the shape of a pile on the couch for scripture study. We're in the New Testament this year.

Making Greg's lunch while he plays with Roscoe outside.

Muah. "Love you bye!"

House to myself.

I wasted a half-hour reading about the Pacific Crest Trail and eating organic "toaster pastries". Roscoe stared at me with his eyes closed. Had to remind him that he was excited about my birthday...

Then I enthusiastically got ready for work. No, really. It was bonus day and I had rice crispy treats to share!

Oh yeah, our spare room looked like this, thanks to pups.

Luckily it was a stuffed animal we bought specifically for the kill.

Work was fun. There were just a few things to take care of before the big employee meeting. The January session is where our corporate performance from the prior year is reviewed and relative bonus percentage announced. It's a favorite. Also, our CEO is retiring and I'm going to miss seeing him at these quarterly meetings.

I watched it from the treadmill in the fitness center. Seven miles.

Then it was one more thing to fix and off to enjoy the afternoon.

I looked at the forecast as I was leaving and my spirits lifted a thousand percent.

Stop at home for Roscoe.

Stop at the post office for a package.

Batman stamps! And rice crispy treats. Thanks mom :-)

Stop to see Joyce and Pepito. Oh does she ever make me happy. Shared rice crispy treats.

Roscoe got spoiled at the retirement home. All the ladies wanted a piece of him.

Wipe that grin off your face, dork.

Stop at Costco for pizza and frozen yogurt. Shared with pups.

Stop at Eisenhower. Killed the day hiking with my best bud. Talked to my mom. Hit all the mud puddles. Twice. Ate pizza. Watched the sun set. Talked about smells with pups. Watched him pee. Fourteen times. Told him he's the best dog on the planet. Fifty times.

Then it was home. Waited to be reunited with Greg from work and class. The night before he'd given me this book. It was almost like receiving two gifts since it was 50% off! And it came with a blerch sticker.

I believe in the blerch.

Ate two rice crispy treats. Talked to dad. Talked to Jordan. Talked to Dylan. Found out Dylan sent a package. It should be getting here "any day now". Translation...she mailed it that day. Watched funny videos with Greg.

Then it was 9:30 and I crashed hard.

As far as Tuesday birthdays are concerned, I'd live this one again. Twenty-eight could be exciting or boring. I'm going to do everything I can to make it exciting. Much to the chagrin of my parents.

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 585 - Twenty-Seven

I turned 27 this week! It was my "golden" birthday.

But first, some old pictures to catch up on.

Freezing on a walk in Nebraska. The wind there is merciless about 90% of the time. It usually dies down the day before we leave and is mostly perfect because Nebraska likes to play with me like that.

It's home!

I dream of these wide-open country roads every time I'm stuck in traffic...

Fast-forward a month and we're back in San Antonio spending a Sunday afternoon wandering around Denman Estate Park.

Here are some tree roots.

Tree roots AND me and pups.

This is the pavilion of Gwang-Ju. Named because it was given to San Antonio by sister city Gwang-Ju in South Korea. It's really colorful and cool but you can't play on it.

Greg didn't want to be in any pictures so it's all me and pups.

Now back to my birthday!

It wasn't my BEST BIRTHDAY EVER, like a golden birthday is supposed to be, but it wasn't the worst either. I took the day off and hung out with my dog. Cake was consumed. Laziness was embraced. But only in the morning. I knew I wanted to go on a good run but it was crazy windy outside and I procrastinated well into the afternoon. Oh yeah, and Greg decorated the house and got me cheap flowers and pop tarts and a monkey pinata stuffed with candy.

And something else. I vetoed all of his birthday gift ideas so he gave me a rain check for when I make up my mind.

But this run. This run went down in the history of my favorite runs. I didn't even hit any traffic getting to Government Canyon and then I saw two people the whole time. A lone hiker five minutes into the run and a mountain biker five minutes from the end. Three-hours with no people! It was awesome. Except I was afraid of being attacked by a mountain lion. On one hand, if I had fought it off and survived with minimal injuries, that would have been an epic birthday story. But on the other hand, the odds of that happening are slim and I just never want to be attacked by a mountain lion.

Or a rattlesnake.

So the run was cloudy and breezy but complete bliss. Then Greg skipped his evening classes and we ate restaurant food and went to a movie. Had the whole theater to ourselves, how cool are we??

My mom sent me a box of rice crispy treats and also a bunch of toys and a copy of Cool Runnings. She did real good this year.

And there we go. Officially 27 and starting to feel old. Like I'm encroaching 30...

I refuse to grow up.

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 469 - A Campout And A Birthday, Respectively

^^ we've learned to put greg in the back so his head doesn't look as huge...

Hello, and welcome to my original post detailing "what I did this weekend". Expectations are low, we can begin.

I will mention, there's a slight plot enhancement because it was Sir Gregalot's birthday. Well, yesterday was but you know how those things get carried on and on. So what I did this weekend/birthday shenanigans. Respectively.

 ^^ we're stupid, i know, that didn't work

First, we went camping. I remembered to bring everything except the lighter fluid which really complicated my Dutch oven plans for dinner. Also my Dutch oven plans for cobbler the next day. There weren't any Boy scouts camping around us, so basically we were demoted to caveman status (minus the part where we were in possession of matches) and took an extra 2 hours just to get the charcoals hot. Not one to put on the resume.

The weather was gorgeous during the day and we hung out by the river all afternoon while we were waiting for the family to arrive. Then I found a tick and suddenly the scenery wasn't as pretty.

Now let's talk about the night.

It. Was. Freezing.

I'm a cold-pansy and it never "officially" dipped below 32 degrees, but it was close. In the thirties. We had this brilliant plan to zip our bags together so I could utilize my Gregheater, but that plan backfired. My furnace was all cuddly and warm for the first two minutes of the night, then he fell asleep and rolled over into a ball on the very opposite side of our double-wide cocoon. This was bad for two reasons:

1)  His heat was centralized in his little ball, and not emanating towards me.

2) There are risks when curling up next to anyone's backside at night. People tend to be gas furnaces, if you know what I mean...

I will also mention the ginormous draft hole created when combining sleeping bags.

Because of all this, I spent the mostest parts of the night in a half-conscious state, fixating on how I needed to steal a blanket from one of the kids. I never woke up enough to accomplish that, but I stole a blanket more than once in my dreams.

But don't let all those negatives fool you. It was a truly fun camp out and we had a blast with the family. Anything bad that happens whilst camping is just a funny memory for later.

^^ alisha...we finally remembered our cactus cooler!

^^ can pants get any higher, you ask?

^^ why did the roadrunner cross the road?

^^ i have no idea, but there he goes...

Then we crashed hard Saturday night, and we need not detail that because only the exciting parts of life make the blog (sarcasm) and also, the Gregman made me watch a movie starting with "Snow White" and ending with "The Huntsman" which I mostly slept thru and still wish I could unlive.

Moving on to Monday, aka "The Gregirthday". It's kind of a combination of Greg and birthday and yet it can sound like Earth day, and wouldn't you know? That's exactly what Monday was.

Right. So Greg spent his day at work. All the way to 9 o'clock plus 18 minutes at night. Kind of the pits. We were both really bummed to miss the big party for him and his dad at his house, complete with Star Wars decorations.

Instead he got a homemade chocolate cake, from his wife (that's me), and also some leftover Panera sandwiches that the same wife heisted from work. Special! And potato chips, those are a rare occurrence in this house.

The night wasn't super horrible after 9:18 until I almost ripped my middle fingernail off whilst doing dishes. I still don't know how it happened but it did and it hurt.

So there was screaming and overreacting and grab-your-finger dancing and "finish the dishes they're stupid and I'm done!"

Though, it had to be at least mildly entertaining later when he cracked open our bedroom door to find me sprawled across the bed with my middle finger dramatically propped up on pillows. This is the same middle finger that I probably broke jumping off the Wright Brothers Memorial and I reserve the right to coddle it for the rest of my life.

Have a great day :-)
