Yoo 463 - A Sign It Might Be Time For Bike Fenders
Be glad I posted the side-ish shot...the full-on backside shot was almost pornographic with khaki pants...because it didn't look like I was wearing pants?
Needless to say, it was a saturating ride home from work today. I pulled up to our little home sweet condo quite speckled in mud and looking like a horse had peed my pants, complete with a trail of mud right up my rear.
And that mud bath was the funnest part of my day!
I entered my house only to be alerted that a smoke detector, somewhere, was dying. They sure are pesky little things when they're on their death bed. Also, impossible to find. At first it sounded like it was coming from the hall. Then I swore I heard it in the bedroom. So I had a fun little sprint workout, shooting from room to room every thirty seconds and then waiting patiently for the next beep to either spur me on or confirm I'd found the winner (errr....loser).
Late April Fools.
It turned out to be the carbon monoxide detector. Three AAs! That is a demanding little sentinel.
Also noteworthy, if in the next life you are given the option of watching select portions of my life video, allow me to direct you to Sunday, March 31st at approximately 6:30 pm.
There I was, walking on the little trail by my house. It was right after a small rainstorm and a portion of the trail that dipped down was temporarily flooded. But! This happens all the time. Enter a bunch of rocks set up as jumping stones across the 10-or-so feet to the other side.
No big deal.
I skipped from rock to wobbly rock, carefully planning each hop. Annnnnd made it to the last rock with no problems.
But then I jumped to what looked like cement. But was actually a thin layer of super slippery mud.
*WHOOOP* *SPLASH*
My legs slipped right out from under me and I landed on my backside, quite submerged in the water.
There were no witnesses so I really need you to watch that and laugh, less it all be in vain.
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 461 - Here's My (Two) Sign(s)
I locked myself out of the house on Friday. That's never a fortunate situation, but it was especially unfortunate for these reasons:
1) My cell phone was just out of reach...on the kitchen counter and not in my pocket.
2) I had bread dough rising and quite ready to be shaped into loaves.
3) I had a huge pan of brownies BAKING in the oven with just 15 minutes left on the timer.
4) We have no hide-a-key.
5) We lock all of our windows, all of the time.
6) Greg was still at work and not expected home for over an hour.
Basically, I was real stuck.
I have a friend with a spare key BUT, after 15 minutes, I came to the conclusion that she was not receiving my telepathic cries for help.
Neither was the Gregman, who didn't miraculously come home early.
If anything, this spurred me to work on our patio project because I had nothing else to do except twiddle my thumbs and cloud-gaze for over an hour. And chill with Simba, the neighbor's cat. He was, literally, unmoved throughout the whole ordeal.
The worst part was smelling my brownies baking...those beautiful brownies...and knowing they were going to be hard as rocks.
^^ they LOOK surprisingly normal...they weren't
And they were. Though we did salvage a couple pieces from the middle that are somewhat consumable?
Now let's rewind to Thursday night. I was craving s'mores. And so I was making s'mores.
Graham crackers, sprinkling of chocolate chips, dump on the marshmallows, broil, set timer for 2 minutes, wait patiently. It works every time!
Except for those times when I forget that the oven is already pre-heated to 450 degrees and 2 minutes MIGHT be just a hair too long...
I came back to quite the fire in my oven. This is probably why you should never leave the broiler unattended.
Kicked-off the weekend in style, I did.
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 423 - Locked Out
This isn't your typical "general conference weekend was amazing!" post. Mostly because I unexpectedly found myself standing in the Home Depot on Sunday morning. Wearing a sweater with BYU-Idaho emblazoned across it in big, bold letters, no less. Also dragging my Gregman and a close friend with me.
Because sinning is always more justifiable in groups?
What happened was...I locked us out of the house. Remember how we had to change locks just last Tuesday? Whelp. The locks got changed on one door but I never attached the new key to my key ring. And up until Sunday morning, I'd always just grabbed the new key whenever I left.
You're probably recognizing how easily this all could have been avoided. "Hey Kyoo! Put the new key with all your other keys!"
Trust me. Already sat thru that lecture with the Gregcritic.
So there we were, leaving the house on a quick jaunt to the mailbox together, like a grossly in love newlywed couple.
"Do you have the keys?"
"Yeah I have the keys." <-- said in a mildly annoyed tone
Because I did have the keys. The keys that let us in our front door and also our mailbox.
It wasn't until we got back and I approached the door that I got that sinking feeling. The one you get when you know you're screwed and you know no way out of it.
"Boo I don't think I have the right keys."
I knew I didn't. But I wasn't ready for full-on panic yet.
"What do you mean you don't have the right keys?? I asked if you had the keys! Can't we get in the front door?"
Ha. We couldn't get in the front door.
"The inside dead-bolt is engaged on that one."
We were stuck. Real stuck. All our windows were locked and the only door that didn't have the inside dead-bolt engaged was the one we didn't have the key to. I laughed, because that's all I could do. And also pondered my home insurance and whether or not that would cover a locksmith.
Like roadside assistance? For your house.
This is where we all need to recognize that, despite my initial ignorance, I had a stroke of brilliance.
I get those sometimes when large amounts of money are at stake. (thinking about paying a locksmith was really motivating me to be creative).
Remembering that we had just bought the new door hardware at Home Depot, and that most of their locks had the same key sequence, I called the Alishafriend. We didn't have our car keys or any form of payment so she was crucial to the plan.
And she ignored me.
So I called again.
Alisha knows that if I call twice, it's an emergency.
This time she answered, sporting her darling "morning voice". This is where I begged. And begged. And begged. Because she was still in bed.
"Hey! Friend! This is going to be a really funny story to look back on someday but right now I need you to take me to Home Depot and buy me a new doorknob...!"
That went over well.
While we were waiting we hunkered down in our storage shed to keep warm. Cause not only did I lock us out, but I locked us out on the coldest day of the year. Fifties! And the Greggers was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Originally we weren't expecting to be outside that long...
That's my "Heh...I locked us out and I'm not even cute to make up for it!" face.
Alisha came, we rolled into Home Depot, prayed for divine inspiration in the door knob aisle as to which key sequence was right, decided to just buy a bunch, and then left.
But not before Alisha ratted us out to the checkout lady.
"They're locked out of their house and are hoping one of these keys will work."
"Oh! Y'all had a little too much fun last night, didn't you?!" she replied.
"Ha! They wish that was the case."
She drove us back and I prepared myself to call a locksmith. I was feeling less confident in my plan that one of the keys would match our door.
BUT!
Lo and behold. One of them worked! And we got back in our house without breaking the door window (that was my second plan) OR calling a locksmith (third plan).
So now you know all about how I locked us out AND broke the Sabbath AND still saved the day. And gave the Alishafriend an opportunity to serve...because those are in such short supply...
I probably learned my lesson. At least, for the last 12 hours anyways, I've been really paranoid about keys.
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 346 - It Finally Happened
The thing I knew would happen at some point, from the very first day I installed "clipless" pedals on my bike.
That's right. I stopped without releasing my cleats and toppled over, still very much attached to the Kyoo bike.
I didn't lie there long enough for anyone take a picture, but it looked very much like this.
Actually, the most embarrassing part was that I did release one foot from the pedals. But then all my weight was on the other side and I couldn't shift my body right to land on the side with the free foot. *CRASH* Right in front of a public restroom, no less.
"Disregard the amateur trying to use the bathroom over here...I got this!"
Luckily, I landed on the grass.
Unluckily, I'm sure at least a million people saw. But they all awkwardly pretended not to see, I'm sure laughing into their bike gloves as they looked away.
And then a small boy ran past and told me I had a nice bike.
It was going to happen sometime. Kind of glad it's over. That's the kind of thing you only have to experience once, right??
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 312 - A Love For A Thousand Years
This post could also be titled "Why You Should Disable The Show Preview Setting On Your Text Notifications".
But that's kind of long.
I bought a new (used) iPhone a couple weeks ago and have been slow to restore it to all my preferred settings. There's something kind of refreshing about a "factory default" iPhone, you know? Uncluttered and simple. It's a new start.
But specifically, I'd been too lazy to disable the "Show Preview" messaging notification, which leaves all of my text messages, word for word, emblazoned across the screen as they come in for all to read. I normally just have a simple alert pop up but I hadn't had a reason to change it.
Enter reason.
So the Gregromantic and I had been jesting back and forth this morning about Christina Perri's song "A Thousand Years". Lyrical jabs, sappy jabs, it's stuck in my head jabs, and so forth.
It was in the middle of all this banterous talk that I had my phone sitting on my desk and was quite intently focusing on my work computer when one of my coworkers walks up to me and sees the following banners glowing on the screen:
Text #1 - "I have loved you for a thousand years"
Text #2 - "I will love you for a thousand more."
Coworker immediately starts laughing. "Hahahahaha I caught some good ones!!"
"Whadawhat??" My head spins around. I immediately start blushing when I see what he's read.
"We were poking fun of song lyrics!!!"
He wasn't buying it.
"Song lyrics, I swear!!"
I started to read off the texts sent before that but the damage was done.
Is that awkward or is that awkward? (the correct answer is mortifying).
I related this story to a friend (who shall remain anonymous...) and she argued that having someone at work yesterday point out that her fly was unzipped was worse.
She might be right but that's a hard "Would you rather...?"
At that moment I might have opted for the wide-open fly.
In other news, should I have bought this bear? Yes?? It was only 30 dollars at Costco! Can you imagine the happiness this thing would bring to my condo?? So cute and soft and cuddly!
It pretty much stabbed my heart but I had to put down my foot and command the Gregbear to leave it. (we take turns being the adult...).
He was pulling out the "It would be almost as good as having a puppy but it wouldn't poop" arguments.
Ugh. Again, I ask, should I have bought this bear??
(this is why you never aimlessly wander the aisles of the costco...)
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 297 - If The Winds Are Blowing In A Stench...
...it might be me.
As Anne Shirley would say, the most tragical thing happened last night.
I went thru my normal Monday afternoon routine of sweating for 3+ hours while lifting weights and then running 8 miles outside. Ate a fantastical dinner. And then eagerly locked myself in the bathroom for a much deserved shower.
Nay, a much needed shower.
I turned the faucet on to get the water warmed up, and started plucking my eyebrows while I waited.
Seconds later, it was if a cannon had gone off.
Boom! PLINK! Crash! GUSHING WATER!
"Hmmm" Furrowed face. "That didn't sound good..." I said from my poise at the mirror.
Walking over to the shower, I was met with this.
And this.
That's right. My tub faucet had shot off the wall and converted my shower into a dysfunctional fire hydrant.
Oh the let down! All I wanted at that very moment in time was to take a shower!
I debated:
(the gregbeau is cringing at the grossness of that statement right now).
(and you probably are too).
Really. It was gross.
So, I'm pretty much consigned to showering in the work locker rooms until I can get a plumber to fix my faucet or figure out how to fix it myself.
But of course I'll try to fix it myself first!
There are some days I love owning my own condo.
Today was not one of them...
Have a great day :-)

I debated:
- Driving back to work to use the locker rooms there. But who wants to go back to work on a Monday night??
- Going for a swim in the pool. But, as nice as San Antonio weather is, that would have been an ice bath. I wasn't up for an ice bath.
- Awkwardly squatting into the stinging blast shooting from my wall. But I didn't want to pull something and then have to come up with an explanation for my "sports" injury.
(the gregbeau is cringing at the grossness of that statement right now).

Yoo 289 - 3 Things
Thing the first:
I'll be playing around with the "design" of my blog for the next little while...so don't be alarmed/annoyed if it keeps changing. I figured after 5+ years it was time to actually customize/organize it a bit. Work in progress!
Thing the second:
Ready for the grossest way to begin your Monday?
That used to be chocolate milk. (the same that exploded). Do you think that bottom section is almost potable water now? No? Don't worry, it's been properly disposed of...
Thing the third:
More phone drama. So, Saturday night. The Gregbeau and I were settled in watching my, hands down, most favorite movie (apollo 13). Nothing out of the ordinary. Except that he actually agreed to watch that movie with me. He usually just shakes his head in disbelief every time I start gushing about how it's the coolest. movie. ever. (hello! partially filmed in the vomit comet!). But that's besides the point. Movie played on, Kyoo fought back tears, Kyoophone sat abandoned and "turned off" in the kitchen. (it had been particularly unruly that day). Or so I thought...
End movie, enter Kyoo into the kitchen.
"What the.....on no!"
Yes folks, serious trouble now. The Kyoophone had managed to turn itself on during the course of the movie and make, no less than, 12 calls to a handful of my most obscure contacts.
My recent outgoing calls list looked a little like this:
21:26 - guy I was going to sell my old punching bag to but never did. (2 years ago)
21:30 - old manager at work. (she's still with the company)
21:40 - another work contact. (haven't been on a project with him in over a year)
21:47 - random girl that used to be in my singles ward years ago.
21:51 - guy I played soccer with at work. (3 years ago)
21:55 - another call to punching bag guy
22:04 - the Morgansister. (not a big deal)
22:16 - another old work contact. (again, haven't contacted in years)
22:23 - old manager again
22:34 - punching bag guy again
22:37 - old high school/college friend. (boy, went on a couple dates with him...)
22:49 - punching bag guy, yet again.
I walked in on that last call and it had been connected for over 2 minutes.
We have, at least, two takeaways from this.
Takeaway the first: I need to clean my phone contacts out.
Takeaway the second: my phone is possessed and doing everything it can to humiliate me. Two prank calls to my old work manager??
I now have a voicemail from her that I'm too afraid to listen to.
I imagine it's something about why I was calling her on a Saturday night to a soundtrack of Apollo 13 and maybe me crying and cheering in the background...
I think ignorance is bliss in this situation. I'm going to pretend it never happened.
First item on the to do list this week: buy a new phone!
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 288 - The Doctor and Celebrex
I really do not love going to the doctor.
Now, I know you're thinking "Cool, Kyoo, who does?".
And I'm here to say "No, I really do not love going to the doctor."
Actually, it's probably more that I hate trying to find a new doctor. But actually scheduling an appointment and going to the doctor is still not favorite.
Like, I will call my mom and start to whine and complain like a small child and maybe even go as far as ask her to call and schedule an appointment for me. Or just call one of my old doctors and ask them my question. Or even delay an appointment until I'm back "home" in Nebraska and can go to one of my old doctors myself. And by myself I mean with my mom.
I've gone as far as finding a friend with a similar problem (acne) and having them schedule an appointment for us (me) to see a new doctor (dermatologist) together (for fun).
I need to grow up! But I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.
For example: my right foot. There's been this pain of sorts in my metatarsally region that's been affecting things like, oh, running and walking and jumping and standing.
Not a big deal.
I've been ignoring it. Because that's what most athletes do. DO NOT TELL ME TO TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF I CAN IGNORE THIS WHAT LIMP? That approach. (stupid...stubborn...hard-headed, yes all apply).
But then people were pestering me about that limp and telling me all sorts of horror stories like they're so good at ("and so and so couldn't run for two years and her foot was permanently maimed because she ignored it...") and then I started fixating on those horror stories and what two years without running would do to me ("anyone else see 200 on the bathroom scale?") because of course that's what was going on with my foot and then it became really hard to ignore the problem.
So, after deliberating with the Gregbeau, and the Alishafriend, and 5 of my coworkers and the Kyoomom, I decided I should actually go to the doctor.
Except the conversation with the Kyoomom lasted a while and consisted of me slouching in an abandoned chair at work almost with tears welling up in my eyes while begging and pleading. "Can you just call Dr. Maynard and ask him if I can ignore this? No I can't call him! He'll remember you better. His nurse, Jackie? She loves me?? Ask her then! I don't want to call! I'll feel so stupid calling and won't know what to say!! Moms call all the time!"
She didn't call. Something about how I need to grow up? Lame.
Still feeling stubborn at this point and desperate to find ANY other solution to the problem, I spent hours researching podiatry and sports medicine websites trying to diagnose my own problem. But it didn't sound like anything described therein.
Great. None of the medical journals can describe my problem. How am I supposed to??
So, when self-diagnosis didn't work and I knew I didn't have the resolve to take a couple weeks off and just let it heal without someone telling me to, I found a doctor and scheduled an appointment.
By myself.
Please recognize the magnitude of that.
And do you know how that doctor's appointment went?
A little like this.
I filled out the paperwork like a pro. Until I realized my health insurance card was expired. Probably because I never use it? So I had to drive home, rifle thru months of mail until I found the new one, activated it, and drove to the doctor. Then I nervously sat in the waiting room and pretended to blog about Costco Frozen Yogurt but actually I was doing all sorts of things with my right foot trying to prepare my "it hurts when i do this..." statements ahead of time.
I knew words would escape me in the exam room. I almost wrote down notes...
The exam room was scary. Foot skeleton models and all sorts of muscle images of ankles and toes bending ways they should not bend...
The nurse told me to take my right shoe and sock off while she asked me a bunch of questions. Then she told me I didn't need to hug my shoe and could just set it on the floor.
"No need to hug that dirty shoe ma, just set it on the floor. We won't bite."
I wanted to love her but she just called out my nerves!
The doctor came in and was super cool and a runner himself. That wasn't the problem. The problem was that he started looking at my foot and squeezing and pushing it and, just like any other time I break down and go to the doctor, all of a sudden nothing hurt.
"Does it hurt when I do this?"
"No."
"Does it hurt when I do this?"
"No."
"What do you feel when I do this?"
(thinking real hard...trying to feel pain...) "Nothing...should that hurt?"
I felt so dumb. I went into a hurried explanation of the "pain" and how it wasn't horrific and I could compensate for it in my foot strike and ignore it mostly and I just didn't want to be maimed and not able to run!
He gave me a sympathetic look and ordered x-rays.
I wanted to hug my shoe again.
I almost smiled for the x-rays. But that would have been silly.
When that was all done, the doctor studied my glowing foot bones, darkening and changing angles, for several minutes, before telling me they were perfect.
And then I felt really really silly. And fake. And like a pansy.
He couldn't find anything wrong!
We talked about several possibilities and how most foot injuries only show up in MRIs. And then he told me to take it easy for a week and prescribed Celebrex.
Celebrex, people.
Like, this Celebrex.
I didn't think much about it until I was leaving his office and remembered what Celebrex was. Actually, all the commercials I saw for it in between cartoon reruns as a teenager came back to me in flash sequence like some haunting dream with slasher music accompaniment.
If that's not a blow to the ego I don't know what is.
So, for the next week, this Kyoo will be "taking it easy" and ingesting old people pills.
And by taking it easy I mean I'm about to go on a hilly, double-digit trail run.
If my darn foot didn't hurt in the doctor's office, then either it's fine or I'm going to make sure it hurts the next time I have to go in there...
And that, my friends, is an extremely lengthy example of why I do not love going to the doctor.
Have a great day :-)
Now, I know you're thinking "Cool, Kyoo, who does?".

Yoo 284 - When I Decided to Not Take My Phone to Church
First, this sign:
It's posted all over town right now and when I initially saw it I thought "Carmen Sandiego...she's in San Antonio!"
It took me a couple seconds...not quite the same...but almost. I still get excited every time I see it. Which, if you're going for name recognition, is effective. At least, when it comes time to voting, I'm sure I'll recognize her name and probably vote for her just because I don't recognize the names of anyone else on the ballot.
Their signs don't trigger happy memories of childhood TV shows.
Second, remember my *new* redneck phone and how excited I was about the possibility of this whole year together? With no money out of pocket??
Yeah, that's not going to happen.
It's on the fritz and needs constant supervision now.
Exhibit A
The phone was resting on my bathroom counter. The shower was running. I stepped out of the shower only to realize that my phone had dialed and been connected to a work contact (that just left the company on Friday) for all of 54 seconds.
Awkward.
I panicked and hung up. You know, to avoid the "Hey Fred...just calling to see how the unemployed life is....shower? No, you didn't hear a shower..." conversation.
Kind of glad I don't have to face him today.
And that I wasn't singing at the time...
Exhibit B
The phone was resting on my desk. It was "asleep" and set to "silent". All of a sudden it buzzed to life and spontaneously announced:
"Now playing songs by Pink"
And proceeded to blast "Don't Let Me Get Me".
Ask me the last time I've ever played Pink? [I can not tell you.]
That's when I decided my phone would NOT be going to church with me yesterday. It behaves like a small puppy. I can't control it! And I didn't want to be the one accidentally adding a soundtrack of "Flying Purple People-Eater" to the Sacrament.
(what? you don't have that song on your ipod? crying shame.)
This phone is seriously possessed. And it's not Siri. It's "Voice Control". I need to turn this alleged "Voice Control" off.
I've been keeping the whole thing shutdown but when I do have to turn it on, it's just a few seconds before it starts switching between all my apps and then calling random contacts. I have accidentally called no less than 5 people today. That I know of. And when it's not doing that it insists on playing "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears on repeat.
What is my phone trying to tell me??
I'm ready to fork out the money and buy a new one. At least I can laugh about it now.
Happy Monday!
Have a great day :-)

Yoo 270 - That awkward moment when...
...Kyoo tries to be a fashion blogger.
That, bicycle commuting style, just happened.
Get it while it's hawt!
In other bike commuting news, I'm pretty popular with the school bus stop kids as of late. Thanks to my purchase and install of tire lights. Green ones. (amazon...5 dollars...worth it). Now when I race past, all TRON-like in the morning, I get comments shouted my direction like "Whoa! I like your bike!" and "That's so cool! Did you see her bike?!".
(it's probably a good thing I'm going downhill when I pass their stops). (i don't think the lights look as cool during my slow-motion uphill pedals).
But what more can I say? I'm popular with the K-6 crowd. It's an ego boost.
Unless they're being sarcastic. But they wouldn't do that, right?
Have a great day :-)
shoes: KEENS (wear them everyday, everywhere) (ugly as a peahen) (still swear by them after two years) shoelaces: stolen from an old pair of KEENS (the original ones ripped) (i'm too cheap to buy new matching ones) jeans: probably Eddie Bauer (right leg rollup to evade muh chain!) socks: thrifted (not really...but it sounds good)
That, bicycle commuting style, just happened.
Get it while it's hawt!

Yoo 241 - Just Dance
Just Dance is not favorite.
I mean, that wii controller just can't capture these moves.
Ok, maybe it's just us.
Have a great day :-)

Kyoo 188 - Hiker's Chattery
What do you talk about on a long hike?
A clue, everything.
This particular conversation started with a song:
Flo Rida's "Club Can't Handle Me"
And a funny comment:
"What if we danced along the whole trail? We could make a backpacking commercial out of it!"
And ended in another episode of "Such is the Life of Kyooyoo".
Why?
Because we thought we were alone.
Before you watch this video, let me preface it by saying that we were hiking on the backcountry trails and hadn't seen a living soul (or a dead one, I'm pretty sure) for several hours.
Remember, we thought we were alone.
Also remember that the filming of us dancing like lost nerds carrying massive packs on a day hike was planned and the camera was planted.
The encounter was not.
Did I mention we thought we were alone?
I'll let the video speak for itself:
Apparently we weren't alone.
Could her timing have been any more perfect (read unfortunate)?? A clue, no.
Have a great day :)

Kyoo 176 - Annnnnd I'm stuck in a turnstile
I know it's really soon but I have another episode of "Such is the life of Kyooyoo" ready!
So....I got stuck in the turnstile at work.
Yep. That thing.
How? Well, I think I was walking too slowly through it. And it locked early. Creating a little prison cell. With Kyooyoo in the middle.
It wasn't bad enough that I was stuck too. No. I was actually leaving work at a decent time. A time when just about everyone else was leaving work. So of course several people I knew walked by and had a good laugh. One of them finally stopped, grabbed my badge, and re-swiped it for me since I couldn't reach.
I have that nice gentleman to thank for freedom right now!
Oh the awkward situations I get myself in...
Have a great day :)

Kyoo 175
And in yet another episode of "Such is the life of Kyooyoo", I present this one, which took place on a recent trip to Idaho.
It all started Saturday morning. I woke up with a queasy stomach. It wasn't too bad, just a minor annoyance, so I didn't think much of it. I ate granola and a banana for breakfast, spent some time with my grandpa, and then had a Lean Cuisine labeled "Asian Potstickers" for a light lunch a few hours later. Pretty normal day. Stomach was still queasy but again, nothing I couldn't ignore.
Enter my friend Greggers and his mom. Greggers had invited me over for dinner with him and his family and came by to pick me up early. I spent the afternoon running errands with him and his mom around Twin Falls. We toured the house she's building, browsed a home decor store, picked up some groceries, and had a pretty fun time.
Meanwhile, the storm in my stomach was growing more and more noticeable. I knew it wasn't normal when I turned down the opportunity to sample some salsa. I love chips. And I really love fresh, mild salsa.
Kyooyoo turning down food is NOT a good sign.
I really became aware that my situation was bleak when I walked into WinCo with Greggers and realized that every food I looked at made me want to hurl. I had to fight back a few gags as we walked around the store and I caught various whiffs of food.
Kyooyoo wanting to vomit at the sight of food is NOT a good sign.
Upon returning to Gregger's house, I kept doing my best to ignore my stomach and tried to help as they finished preparing dinner. I didn't last long. The constant struggle to retain the contents of my stomach amongst all the different aromas wafting around me was making my head spin. I finally had to excuse myself to a room and lie down.
So, there I was. First time meeting Gregger's family and I'm hiding in his room trying to calm my stomach. One hour passes. Then two. I'm still back there on his bed. His family is out in the kitchen enjoying a nice Mexican food dinner probably wondering about his creeper "sick" friend hiding from them.
Three hours pass. By this time, I was really in pain. I stood up and quickly realized that this was no fire drill. I had to get to the bathroom. Not knowing exactly where that was, I crept into the hall for a quick survey. Spying what looked like a bathroom door off to my left, I headed in that direction but was spotted by his sister. After a weak wave of acknowledgment, I ducked into what ended up being the laundry room. Dang it!
Two seconds later I emerged and spotted a glimmer of what appeared to be the desired porcelain throne just a few more steps down the hallway. Success! I crept inside, locked the door, turned the fan on, and hoped with every fiber in me that they couldn't hear the awful sounds of my "Asian Potstickers" and granola and banana finding an early return exit via my mouth. It was horrible. I hate throwing up.
I felt a little better after clearing my stomach but, thinking that then would have been an awkward time to introduce myself to his family, snuck back into his room to continue my resting. A couple hours later, after another visit to the bathroom, Greggers was kind enough to give me a ride back to my grandpa's house where I settled in for an unpleasant night.
This unpleasant night brought a few more hugging trips to the porcelain throne, dizziness that reduced me to a crawl, a churning stomach, and a new meaning to 7-Up. One small sip of that soda and indeed, 7 seconds later, it was back up. Not the best night I've ever had. Actually, I can't remember the last time I've been that sick. Or thrown up for that matter. It's been at least high school. Maybe longer.
But, after sleeping most of today away, I am pleased to report that I'm feeling better! I have so far stomached water, 7-Up, and some frozen strawberry yogurt. Now I just have to convince Gregger's family that I'm not some sick, creeper child...
But all I can say for now is, after not eating for a couple days, when I finally get my appetite back, I'm going to be ravenous. And Taco Bell had better be open.
Have a great day :)

Kyoo 170 - The Green Bra Story
Buzz Lightyear to the rescue! Haha, this is the picture they had displayed on NASA's shuttle website. I thought it was cute. Discovery's ferry flight path didn't make it's way down to San Antonio this time. Though it did make stops in Amarillo and Fort Worth.

Enough of the space shuttle. Anyone remember my ripped crotch story? Well, I have another episode in "Such is the life of Kyooyoo". This one takes place late on a Saturday night in Target.
I had just spent 10 straight hours staring at a computer trying to finish up at work (remember, this is a Saturday) so my brain was pretty fried and all normal thought had ceased. On my way home I realized I was pretty hungry and pulled into the parking lot of HEB to get groceries. At this point, I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to buy groceries because I knew I'd end up buying the whole store. Well, this HEB happens to be next to a Target so I decided to go into Target to try on pants (that usually kills any appetite I have!).
So, I try on lots of different clothes and find a few things I like but in the process of going in and out of the fitting rooms I lose track of which ones I like and get sidetracked. In the unmentionables section. Sidetrack ceases and I walk out of the unmentionables section with a bright green-striped sports bra. Still not sure how that happened but it was on clearance and I was pretty pleased.
The story continues as my wandering around Target continues. I really should have gone to the checkout and left at that point because it was a little awkward carrying just the bra around. But, like I said, logical thought had ceased and I found myself poking about in the camping section, and then playing with some toys, and then rifling through frames in housewares. All while carrying this bright green bra.
Next thing I know, I'm leaving housewares to check out the crayons when, lo and behold, I run into *Creed Barter. If only you all knew Creed. I know Creed. He's in my ward. He was Elder's Quorum president for a while. He's currently the ward clerk. He's one of the most straight-edged men you will ever meet, at least what I know of him, and here I am, standing in front of him on a Saturday night in Target swinging my bright green sports bra around. Do not ask me how our conversation went. My mind was racing with the decision process of what to do with the bra!
"Should I shove it in my purse real fast? Would they see that on camera and think I'm shoplifting? That would definitely complicate this situation. Maybe he hasn't noticed it yet....oh Kyooyoo don't be stupid, he's noticed it. I could kind of crumple it up in my hand...no, it's on a hanger. Maybe if I put my arm behind my ba...yeah, that' stupid too. It will only draw attention to it. Should I wave it around and make it really noticeable? Would that dispel the awkwardness or make it more awkward? I probably shouldn't point this out in the conversation. Conversation? Conversation! Oh snap! We're having a conversation! What did he just say? I still have this bra in my hand. What do I do with this bra?!?!?!?! Is he waiting for me to say something?"
It was about at this point in my thought process that I realized that I had kind of walked away before whatever conversation we were having was over and I turned around to find him still looking at me. So, what did I do? I gave a small wave, WITH THE BRA HAND, and dashed into the lamp aisle. Smooth, I know.
Now at THIS point, you'd really think I'd have learned my lesson and just dropped the bra and left, but nope. That would be too normal of an ending for this story. What did I do? I wandered over to the electronics and ran into him AGAIN! Trust me, electronics is not where you want to be when you're carrying a bra through the store. There is a reason those two departments are on opposite-end, far-corners from each other. And I still don't learn my lesson. Because after stops in the books and then cards sections I finally reach the checkout in time for Mr. Creed Barter to pass by a third time. And I'm still carrying the bra.
Awesome.
And the story still isn't over because today at church, right as I'm leaving, he gives me a little nod and smile and remarks "Get everything you needed at Target last night?"
"Yes. Yes I did Creed. Thanks for noticing."
Ahhhh, such is the life of Kyooyoo. If it's unfathomable, it'll happen to me. So keep fathoming.
Have a great day :)
