Yoo 621 - SA Highland Games

We went to the San Antonio Highland Games back in April...mostly because they allow dogs in. It wasn't anything spectacular but we had a fun afternoon. The sheep dog demonstrations were our favorite, followed closely by the actual games. Haggis was consumed. I tried to imagine what Greg would look like in a kilt. And highland dancing! My friend Elizabeth took my to a Highland dancing class once upon a time so I watched that with some appreciation. Totally recognized the sword dance and felt cool. Also, live bag pipes.

Pups was a handful around the sheep dogs. He wanted to be IN on the action. He kept giving us the PLEASE LET ME OFF THIS LEASH NOW look and whining. Nothing could distract his attention from the sheep. We watched that in doses to give him time to calm down and not have a heart attack.

As we watched the different games, we laughed about how quickly we could get into each event. Like when you're watching the Olympics and some obscure sport comes on but then, after listening to the announcers for two minutes, you're suddenly an EXPERT on the judging and rules. "Oh, tsk tsk, his feet came apart...that's a two point deduction."  It was just like that and we cheered wholeheartedly thru Weight Over the Bar and Sheaf Toss and others.

Didn't get to see much of the caber toss but that's one event I'd like to try!

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 585 - Twenty-Seven

I turned 27 this week! It was my "golden" birthday.

But first, some old pictures to catch up on.

Freezing on a walk in Nebraska. The wind there is merciless about 90% of the time. It usually dies down the day before we leave and is mostly perfect because Nebraska likes to play with me like that.

It's home!

I dream of these wide-open country roads every time I'm stuck in traffic...

Fast-forward a month and we're back in San Antonio spending a Sunday afternoon wandering around Denman Estate Park.

Here are some tree roots.

Tree roots AND me and pups.

This is the pavilion of Gwang-Ju. Named because it was given to San Antonio by sister city Gwang-Ju in South Korea. It's really colorful and cool but you can't play on it.

Greg didn't want to be in any pictures so it's all me and pups.

Now back to my birthday!

It wasn't my BEST BIRTHDAY EVER, like a golden birthday is supposed to be, but it wasn't the worst either. I took the day off and hung out with my dog. Cake was consumed. Laziness was embraced. But only in the morning. I knew I wanted to go on a good run but it was crazy windy outside and I procrastinated well into the afternoon. Oh yeah, and Greg decorated the house and got me cheap flowers and pop tarts and a monkey pinata stuffed with candy.

And something else. I vetoed all of his birthday gift ideas so he gave me a rain check for when I make up my mind.

But this run. This run went down in the history of my favorite runs. I didn't even hit any traffic getting to Government Canyon and then I saw two people the whole time. A lone hiker five minutes into the run and a mountain biker five minutes from the end. Three-hours with no people! It was awesome. Except I was afraid of being attacked by a mountain lion. On one hand, if I had fought it off and survived with minimal injuries, that would have been an epic birthday story. But on the other hand, the odds of that happening are slim and I just never want to be attacked by a mountain lion.

Or a rattlesnake.

So the run was cloudy and breezy but complete bliss. Then Greg skipped his evening classes and we ate restaurant food and went to a movie. Had the whole theater to ourselves, how cool are we??

My mom sent me a box of rice crispy treats and also a bunch of toys and a copy of Cool Runnings. She did real good this year.

And there we go. Officially 27 and starting to feel old. Like I'm encroaching 30...

I refuse to grow up.

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 490 - Dog Park

Watching the Spurs game is just stressful right now. I'm blogging to pass the time.

Roscoe got thru all of his vaccinations like a champ last Friday so we were finally  able to venture to the dog park with a few less worries.

Since then we've been to the dog park 4 times. The dog park is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. It's shaded and there are dogs. Kindling for a mood boost. But more importantly, an easy way for my 80 pound energy bomb to diffuse.

Exhibit A of said energy bomb: he broke free of his crate this week. A large, sturdy metal crate. I had started crating him on the weekdays while I was at work since he always escaped the kitchen. Lo and behold he can escape the crate. I went home for lunch on Wednesday and he was prancing about the house while his crate was half-open and drug almost entirely into a different room. How is that even possible? I'm going to have to put padlocks on that thing! And bolt it to the floor!

If this dog is any indication of what my kids will be like, I'm kind of excited for them. Roscoe is crazy and I love it. His crazy is fun.

This dude is my favorite thing.

^^ "the car is my favorite thing!"

^^ "hey, uh, just wondering...are we there yet?"

 ^^ "we're not there yet..."

^^ "you want to take a picture of my eyeball?"

 ^^ "oh boy we're here!"

 ^^ "friend!"

 ^^ "friend! friend! friend!"

^^ "i can ruuuuuuuuuun!"

 ^^ "i smell good?"

^^ "the dog park is my favorite thing."

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 488 - NBA Finals

This spoiled husband of mine got to go to the NBA Finals Game 4 last night.

I made him wear the Spurs Hand since he didn't have a jersey. He tried to compensate with an All Blacks polo...at least he had the colors.

I think I was going to get him a Spurs jersey for Christmas last year but that fell thru because...oh yeah, because we were going to New Zealand.

A good wife would just be super happy that their husband got to fulfill a boyhood dream. And I am! But, I'm also probably going to use this as leverage for things I want for the next 4 years...approximately.

Or the rest of my life.

:-)

Does he look 13 in this picture to anyone else?

There's no way I can look like I'm aging well standing next to him...

But seriously, he was pretty pumped to be at the game and it made me happy. EVEN THOUGH THEY LOST. Bad luck Greggers. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted cause we can't afford you attending anymore games on multiple fronts!

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 464 - Big League Weekend

Once upon a time, my Greggerly lovest took me to a professional baseball game for Big League Weekend in the Alamodome. He was super excited about it and so I tried to be super excited about it and moral of the story is, I can't act.

THE most exciting part of the game was when the wave took 7 rounds to die down. Why is that such an adrenaline rush?

It made me giggle every single time.

The second most exciting part of the game was when some hitter broke a bat.

And the third most exciting part of the game was when the HEB green, red, and blue dots were racing around the field. Even though my green dude lost.

Eavesdropping on the people around us filled the gaps for me, not necessarily the game below.

Maybe if the players would go back to wearing those tight pants instead of the baggy ones that they step all over! Some selfish man made a depriving decision...

Oh! Let's not forget my rousing rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". That turned a few heads.

But mostly I just whined that I'd forgotten to wear my baseball glove and how that had to go on my bucket list because one cannot live a fulfilled life without having worn a baseball glove to a professional baseball game and at least been prepared to catch a foul ball.

Sum total of the night:  "From this day forth", decreed the husband, "you are no longer my baseball game buddy of choice!" So let it be written, so let it be done, I guess. Unless it's the All-You-Can-Eat seats at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. I have added a wife exception to that decree that prohibits him from attending under those circumstances with anybody else.

Lastly, these flowers. I picked them and placed them in a mason jar on my table and it's one of the most hipster things I've ever done. Do we consider that hipster? I feel like I would see this on a hipster blog.

Anyways, they make me hope for a future filled with adventurous children that play away the day and then bring me home a handful of dandelions to perch on the dinner table.

Maybe after a baseball game where they chased butterflies around right field the whole time. Lord knows that's where I spent all my softball-playing days...

Have a great day :-)

Yoo 391 - A Perfectly Newlywed Saturday

We spent Saturday in the most perfect of newlywed ways: waiting on a mechanic all day to spend five hundred dollars fixing our only car.

Only it really wasn't that bad. We took our bikes and set out to explore downtown and the Missions trail (again) while we waited. So the day was filled with getting lost, drooling over homes we'll probably never be able to afford, playing with nieces and nephews, and eating at restaurants with unnerving warning labels.

And sweat. Lots of sweat.

Then, since the Caspercar was fixed, we pilgrimaged it up to Austin for a dresser. And then, somewhere in the labyrinth that is IKEA, a million other things spoke to me so we came home with a dresser AND a bagful of pillows, plants, candle lanterns, a small moose, bag clips, and a fake bear rug. I'm only a little ashamed.

Do you know what we're surprisingly sad about though?

The Caspercar doesn't sound like Sebulba's pod racer anymore. Driving around town just isn't as cool.

Have a great day :-)
