Yoo 429 - Camping With Kids
We went camping with the Houston nieces and nephews last weekend.
Camping, by itself, is one of my favorite things.
But camping with kids definitely trumps.
Take Saturday morning.
The sunlight was just starting to show thru the tent and all was quiet enough that I rolled over, preparing for another 10 minutes of snoozing.
But then one of the younger nephews started to stir...
"Oh cool, I didn't know this tent had a bathroom!"
He said.
It took a minute for that to process.
"What......?"
*eyes shoot open*
"WAIT."
*panicked scrambling to escape the sleeping bag*
"This tent doesn't have a bathroom!!"
Luckily nothing was in progress and it was mostly early-morning confusion about the purpose of a tent vestibule. Never a dull moment! It was a quick weekend but plenty funny.
It was the kids' first camping trip so we pulled out the Dutch oven. Breakfast turned out a little bland.
But igniting breakfast?
Igniting breakfast was the main event.
With several encores.
So, 30 matches and 1/2 a bottle of lighter fluid later...
...we had hot coals.
Because every kid wants a turn (or 5) when it comes to matches and lighter fluid.
Fire!
Camping is so much cooler when there's not a burn ban. Then again, maybe there wouldn't be as many burn bans if it weren't for all those idiots with lighter fluid and matches...
For the record, we were mostly safe with all things flammable. And the 5-year-old taught me a new way to crack eggs.
Always learning.
My glamor shot of the weekend.
The weather was perfect...40s or 50s? Just cool enough so we didn't roast all night. And I got to pull out my winter hat and down vest. It just went by too fast!
I want a good, week-long camping trip.
Have a great day :-)
